Into to a RAMP…
What does RAMP stand for?
Retail Asset Management and Publishing
What is a RAMP? (and give me the short version)
A RAMP is a SaaS platform option for those wanting to create, optimise, translate and share product listings and page content. It’s a cloud-based tool, that brands use to help with listing and publishing products and content onto retail platforms globally.
Okay. How is that different from a PIM?
On the face of it, it sounds a not too dissimilar to a PIM, DAM or PXM - but there are significant and subtle differences between them all that can greatly impact the work you can do, and how easily that work can reach its destination.
Is it a stand-alone product?
It can be! Many RAMPs are designed to deliver a complete retail solution. However, it’s not unheard of for some brands to use a RAMP to provide additional functionality to their PIM, DAM or PXM system.
Thinking about the content supply chain
Thinking about the content supply chain, from attribute, asset and copy creation, to delivery into retailers, there are lot of solutions and services to cover them, but not really until RAMPs came along, a way to bring all the elements together.
Also the elements do not all neatly align into a single process stream.
For example content creation may occur first, but it might also need to occur whilst organising your data, as you realise you are missing elements provided internally that are required at a retailer. Or perhaps the translation occurs in the first creation stage… you get the idea, this is an illustration, it is indicative, not an attempt to describe an individual brands process in detail.
But it is the detail where the stresses and strains are found, and a platforms suitability to deal with them.
